FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a high-gloss polished and a mirror-polished finish?
Terminology for mirror-polished finishes is often used inconsistently in the market. mirrorINOX clearly classifies the quality levels: Mirror No. 7 is the entry-level finish, followed by Super Mirror No. 8 and Marine Mirror No. 9. Perfect Mirror No. 10® represents the highest high-gloss quality with an exceptionally clear mirror effect.
Which industries is mirror-polished stainless steel suitable for?
Mirror-polished stainless steel is used in two main areas: technical applications – mechanical engineering, medical technology and the food industry – where low surface roughness (Ra value) prevents substances from adhering; and design applications – architecture, yacht building, shopfitting and furniture manufacturing – where a flawless appearance is essential.
Which stainless steel grades are suitable for mirror polishing?
We polish the standard grades 1.4301, 1.4404 and 1.4435 – as well as demanding special alloys such as 1.4462 (duplex) and 1.4571. To quality levels offered by hardly any other manufacturer worldwide.
What dimensions are possible for mirror polishing?
mirrorINOX processes sheets up to 4,000 mm wide, 16,000 mm long and 100 mm thick. For the “The Rock” art project in Moscow, Perfect Mirror No. 10® sheets measuring up to 14,973 × 3,347 × 16 mm were polished. Each sheet weighed 6,415 kg.
Why is mirror-polished stainless steel better than glass for public spaces?
Unlike glass mirrors, stainless steel mirrors are shatterproof, fire-safety compliant and vandal-resistant. This makes them the first choice for railway stations, public buildings and high-traffic areas – while delivering the same visual effect.
