FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Slip resistance: When is it purely about appearance, and when is it about genuine safety?

While appearance and tactile qualities are paramount in decorative applications, safety-critical areas must meet tested slip-resistance ratings. Depending on the abrasive and surface roughness, ground stainless steel finishes can be produced for sophisticated design applications or with certified slip resistance up to R13 for safe working areas. The exact requirements and test methods are set out in the current DIN EN 16165 test standard, which now includes the former walking test method from DIN 51130 as Annex B, as well as in the ASR A1.5/1,2 workplace guidelines.

Which slip-resistance classes does mirrorINOX offer?

mirrorINOX manufactures slip-resistant sheet metal and supplies certified finishes in classes R10 to R13 – tested and certified in accordance with DIN EN 16165:2023-02 Annex B. This is the essential basis for meeting requirements in public areas, mechanical engineering and shipbuilding.

Which processes are available for slip-resistant stainless steel surfaces?

mirrorINOX uses mechanical cross and transverse grinding – as with CROSS R11 | R12 | R13, for example – combining design and safety.

In which industries are slip-resistant stainless steel sheets used?

For safety-critical applications: mechanical engineering, staircase construction, elevator and escalator construction, vehicle manufacturing, cold-room construction, shipbuilding and industrial applications. For decorative applications: façade construction, wall cladding, shopfitting, yacht and shipbuilding, as well as sanitary and wellness applications. The two sets of requirements often overlap.

Which materials does mirrorINOX process for slip-resistant surfaces?

We manufacture in grades 1.4016, 1.4301, 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4435, 1.4462 and 1.4571. Purely decorative finishes are also available on an aluminium substrate. In addition, all surfaces can be combined with PVD/TiN colour coatings or nanoINOX® AFP/ETC – for customised colour design and easy cleaning.
